Scott's Space Game

Welcome to the official site of "Scott's Space Game"

Scott's Space Game is...well, a space game in development by Scott. You crash land on an alien world, breaking your space ship. The local aliens are friendly, but ain't just going to give you a new rocket, You can either build a rocket and head back to Earth, which is no easy task, or construct a colony and send a signal to earth to invite colonists. You'll need to build habitats, a food supply chain, oxygen for them (and you) to breathe and generally keep them happy.

You'll need to buy or grow your own food and liquids to drink too. The game takes place on a procedurally-generated planet with 200 square kilometers of play area.

Available for Linux and Windows - ETA: Sometime in 2021/2022 ???
Requires a basic gaming card and 2 or more Core CPU, 8Gb minimum RAM

=====----- Social Media -----=====
When the game is nearly ready, I'll create a Sub-reddit on Reddit for support, discussion, suggestions etc.

The game is rated as "PG" (Parental Guidance)

It contains mild swear words and drug and alcohol references. If you're offended by words, you probably shouldn't be on the internet.
To be kept up-to-date, you can either bookmark this official web site, or subscribe to the official YouTube channel. Here is a video from the channel to see just what the game is about.
NOTE: things may and WILL change in footage you see here, as the game is very much in active development.

"Scott's Space Game" is/will be Donation-ware.
Pay for it if you want and pay however much you think it's worth. (Similar to the game's economy!)
Crazy idea: This game will be free to play, no nagging, no built-in adverts. I know, crazy! I'm just no good at capitalism :-)
So, instead if you don't like the game (when it comes out), you can just delete it and consider it a waste of your time. Or you can carry on playing it for free, no guilt. However if you like it a little bit, a one earth currency unit donation would be most welcome, every unit of currency will go towards buying me Coffee (Programmer's fuel) and maybe beer too! Maybe I could treat myself to a new pair of shoes.
How ever much you choose to donate is much appreciated and shows me that there are actual people in the world who thinks this game may be a neat idea.
I'll be honest, I am writing this game for myself because no one has written it yet. They have come close, but if you want something doing, do it yourself! :-)

More will appear on this page soon and more videos will be posted to the You Tube channel, so like, subscribe and share if you like what you see and hear. The game will be free/donationware, but NOT open-source and I'm currently not looking to collaborate and no beta testing yet as it's not ready to be even tested yet.

This game is made by one person using free software

The entire production of this game was not backed by any funding, instead I'm doing it old-school (late 1980s/early 90s), using my spare time to produce it entirely with FREE software, and that includes the Operating System. There is really no reason to still be running Windows these days, Linux was born in the 1990s and has come a long way now. Linux works and somewhat looks like Windows and has all the same ways of using it, you point and click on stuff, type things in. There's really nothing to learn if you can already use Windows. I'd recommend "Linux Mint" for a nice beginners experience. Do you have an Android phone? That's running Linux... anyway, enough of my rant, to show my gratitude to makers of free software, I'd like to share links to the software sites, so you can try them out for yourself.

This is the software I use to make "Scott's Space Game":

  • Manjaro Linux(free, open-source operating system, alternative to Windows)
  • Godot Game Engine (free, open-source, multi-platform if you insist on running Windows!)
  • MonoDevelop (IDE and code editor) - I'm using the C# language, technically Micro$oft, but open-source and free. (VScode is crap)
  • Blender (3D Modelling and texturing)
  • GIMP (Texture and photo editor, like photoshop, but free and open-source)
  • Ardour (Digital Audio Workstation - Music composition, virtual synthesizers and effects)
  • Audacity (for creating sound effects)
  • OBS Studio (screen recording to make promotional videos for You Tube)
  • ShotCut (Non-linear video editor with effects)
So, if you want to get into making games, Godot will spit out your game for Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, iOS and more! and with the above software, you can do it with a zero budget.
