Attempted to the make the world size in my second game infinite in size. It presented a lot of problems and future bugs I think and it doesn't REALLY need to be infinite in size, so I made it twice as big and now it feels ample size, so much that you can get lost, so I added a mini-map/radar for the corner of the screen, works well. Also optimised the trees. Each tree has to keep track of each piece of fruit on it, which was causing quite a bit of lag, the new technique I used was a vast improvement, 100 trees so far in world, no lag. The trick with any game programming is to limit how much you do each frame down to what is actually needed.
Not had lots of sales of Emoji Miner so far, so not really inundated by requests for features or bug reports. So, I've resumed work on my next game that is based on "Sim-U-Kraft" (Minecraft Mod), it's currently in ALPHA stage of development. Haven't played it in a year, so I'd forgotten how to craft things in it. This made me think that new players to the game would have the same problem. Also, there's 110 things you can make in the game so far, which is just the beginning. With 1000's of recipes to craft things in the future, you'd normally have a wiki. Instead I've added a "Recipe book" in the game itself, so you can easily find what you need and how to make it.
I've done 5 months work on this new game so far, still a lot to do though, as mentioned elsewhere, this is a BIG game, and it has 3D assets instead of 2D sprites, so I have to make all those too which take a lot more time compared to simple sprites.
Many thanks to shirlierox for posting a 30 minute game-play video of Emoji miner. You're the first! I'd like to say you win a prize, but I'm poor so will an IOU be ok? :-)
Everyone else reading this, please like and subscribe to this.
Busy promoting the game, if you can think of anywhere else I should post about it, please let me know!
A Year in the making, and I'm so pleased to announce "Emoji Miner" is now available for download. Many thanks for your patience and support. Funds from this game will go to support me to make more games. I have five months of development done on my next game already, a game based on Sim-U-Kraft (minecraft mod). Anyway, stop reading this and go have a look at my debut game!
Here's a short 'trailer' sort of video, I'll probably make a better one soon, but just to give you a taste of the gameplay.
It's all about Mining, planing, building, flying rockets, mining asteroids, defending against space-pirates and ultimately, saving, housing and feeding as many of the Emoji people you can.
"Emoji Miner" is in the final testing phase, just making sure nothing is badly broken. Development will continue after release, adding new features, fixing bugs and this and that, but as the game stands right now, it's stable, has enough game-play to keep you going for several hours/days and is generally ready for release. (Windows, Mac and Linux)
Here are some places on the internet where you can be kept up-to-date, report bugs, suggest features and anything else.
Emoji Miner will be released on several indie game stores (hopefully!) soon in the budget price range, so please bookmark this page or the above sites to be kept up-to-date.
